Fiona,

Another excellent post :) We are doing a lot at Talis in terms of building new applications and services on our Sem Web Platform. One of the things that I realised a few months ago was that the semantic web is about freeing up and linking data together to create a huge amorphous web of data. The critical thing is that we then have to move away from notions of ownership of that data, but once we do we have to accept that as vendors the value are applications bring is in the experience they provide to users as contextualised perspectives onto this web of data.

I've recently presented this idea at the Talis Research Day to Librarians and Folks from Higher Education institutes which I blogged here: http://www.virtualchaos.co.uk/blog/2008/06/15/talis-xiphos-research-day/

I've also written a more technical piece aimed at developers in issue 2 of Nodalities: http://www.talis.com/nodalities/

Let me know what you think, would be interested in hearing your views :)
